We Must Be OLD.

You think it's good?

Looking down our outline of topics we’d like to discuss on this blog, I’m aware that many of them are about things that more people just knew thirty years ago…

Things that were more expected, like courtesy, spending time talking, hanging in there when things are rough, mutual respect, people are intrinsically valuable… etc.

There’s not much in our culture anymore that would cause people to value these ideas. Every couple on t.v., or in the movies is a charicature: [woman=smart/man=stupid] or [man=adventurer/woman=boring] or [woman+man=shallow and self-centered]. Maybe that’s how the culture has always been, I don’t know. I’m not that old, yet.

But, maybe I’m just barely old enough to know that without these old-fashioned ideas, it’s pretty much impossible to have a deep, happy relationship.

So, maybe we need to open more doors for others, make more dinners, give more massages, listen when we’re tired, and talk a lot less smack! If you’re the kind of person who will throw your significant other under the bus to get a laugh (or make a youtube video sensation), maybe you should get a puppy instead.
